Discover Kerala Kitchen La Cittadella

Kerala Kitchen La Cittadella in the heart of Kawasaki, Japan, stands out as a gem for those craving authentic South Indian cuisine. Located at 〒210-0023 Kanagawa, Kawasaki, Kawasaki Ward, Ogawacho, 4−1 ラチッタデッラ MAGGIORE, 1F, this cozy diner brings the flavors of Kerala to Japan with exceptional flair. Whether you're a local resident or a visitor exploring the area, Kerala Kitchen offers an unforgettable experience, combining the rich spices and flavors of Kerala with a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

When you walk into Kerala Kitchen La Cittadella, you’re immediately transported to a place that feels like home, offering a comforting atmosphere reminiscent of traditional Kerala kitchens. The restaurant’s décor reflects a blend of modern aesthetics with touches that give a nod to the vibrant culture of Kerala. From the friendly staff to the carefully curated menu, it’s clear that this diner has mastered the art of making diners feel at ease while delivering a high-quality culinary experience.

The menu is where the magic truly happens. Specializing in Kerala cuisine, Kerala Kitchen La Cittadella offers a variety of mouth-watering dishes, each packed with the unique, complex flavors that Kerala is known for. One of their signature dishes is the Kerala Sadya, a traditional banquet meal often served on a banana leaf. It consists of an array of dishes, such as sambar, vegetable curries, and crispy pappadam, offering a rich medley of flavors. The dish is not just a meal; it’s an experience-each bite feels like a celebration of Kerala’s agricultural bounty and culinary traditions.

For those with a penchant for seafood, Kerala Kitchen doesn’t disappoint. The Kerala Fish Curry, with its tangy, spicy, and aromatic flavor profile, is a must-try. Using fresh, locally sourced fish, the curry’s depth of flavor is balanced by the use of coconut milk and tamarind, which gives it a slight sweetness that complements the heat perfectly. The restaurant’s commitment to sourcing the best ingredients is evident in every dish, making each one a delight.

If you're new to Kerala cuisine, Kerala Kitchen La Cittadella offers great options for those looking to dip their toes into this rich culinary tradition. The Appam, a fluffy, slightly sour pancake made from fermented rice flour, paired with Stew or Kadala Curry (a black chickpea curry), is a perfect introduction to the flavors of Kerala. It's not just food; it’s a story told through spices, techniques, and a connection to the land. Each dish served is prepared with utmost care, showcasing the depth of knowledge and passion the chefs have for Kerala's traditional cooking methods.

Another standout dish on the menu is the Malabar Parotta. Known for its flaky texture and soft layers, this flatbread is best enjoyed with a rich, flavorful curry, or even just on its own with a sprinkle of sugar. Paired with a sweet, spicy chai, it makes for a truly satisfying meal.

But the experience at Kerala Kitchen isn’t limited to the food alone. The restaurant excels in providing personalized service. The staff are always willing to explain the intricacies of the dishes, ensuring that even first-timers to South Indian cuisine leave with a full understanding of what they've just tasted. Their willingness to guide customers through the menu adds a layer of expertise that is often missing from less attentive dining experiences.

As for its location, Kerala Kitchen La Cittadella is situated in the bustling La Cittadella complex, which is part of the MAGGIORE building on the first floor. The area itself is vibrant and full of life, making it the perfect spot for a meal after a day of exploring Kawasaki. • If you miss authentic kerala food when in Japan, then this is the place to go. The food was so authentic, great taste. Friendly people and they also have local keralite snacks. Best part about their meal is extra rice, sambhar and rasam comes for free. Chapathi didnt feel readymade and felt fresh too which is a bit rare in some of the other restaurants. Overall, highly recommended for a very good authentic kerala meal.

  • If you’ve been to south India and you’re looking for some authentic South Indian food, in the case Kerala style food, you’re at the right place. It’s not the cheapest restaurant out there, but the staff is very friendly and the food is delicious. Definitely worth the price. However, don’t expect the standard North Indian Curry and Naan menu. I went there in the first place because I was looking for a South Indian restaurant serving Dosa.

  • The second installment of the local favourite Kerala Kichen restaurant well known for their kizhi parotta & biryani in La Cittadella shopping mall located to the south of Kawasaki Station. They’ve gained the reputation serving the authentic Kerala dishes laid out beautifully on their custom-crafted clay pots & plates in a traditional way. The two Malayali chefs who used to be workmates in the highly-acclaimed Kerala restaurant in Tokyo control the kitchen with their obvious cooking skills whilst servers give you a warm welcome. Meen moilee with appam or parotta newly added in the menu alongside their ever popular kizhi varieties (parotta & biryani etc), biryanis, meals and tiffin.
